Summary

Framed as a broad overview of the varied facets of Equity & Inclusion in the afterschool setting, this training speaks to our own identities and their intersectionality, understanding and interrupting bias-based thinking, expanding our anti-racism practices, and the importance of youth safety, belonging, and competence. *This is an engagement and discussion-based workshop where participants will be asked to keep their cameras on for the duration of the training. Come prepared to participate in breakout groups, larger group discussions, and using the chat function.

Description

Training Objectives:

  • Develop a more expansive and encompassing understanding of what equity means and its relationship to inclusion in afterschool programming.
  • Understand the differences between implicit and explicit biases, why they exist, and how to interrupt them.
  • Learn more about the significance of Minority Stress Theory and how it may impact marginalized youth's sense of safety, belonging and competence in your program.
